Immediate Press Release
Ghana House Of Port Agents (GHOPA)
GHOPA EXPRESS OUR PROFOUND GRATITUDE TO THE NPP GOVERNMENT FOR REDUCING IMPORT DUTIES
We the entire leadership and members of Ghana House Of Port Agents sincerely wishes to express our profound gratitude to the NPP government especially the economic management team for such a tremendous work done by reducing import duties
Over the years one of the greatest challenge we are facing at the port as agents is high increment of import duties especially on vehicles. After this current NPP government read their first budget on 2nd March 2017 when they abolished so many taxes, we develop a very strong confidence in the government. Having the believe that this will help us unleash our fabulous policies to help redeem the image of business in our country especially at the port but it turns to something else.
We GHOPA will like to also used this press medium to draw the Economic Management Team and the entire NPP government attention to some of the shipping lines delays in issuance of their invoices and when their system goes down and at the end importers are being charged for their own breakdown of their system failure and their demurrage charges are on the high side which is as high as $100 per day they even charge on weekends which is never done anywhere this is a clear sign of daylight robbery at its peak which is too much of a burden on our importers.
In conclusion, we GHOPA wished to state it that we are most grateful to the Economic Management Team and the entire government for such a wonderful and body decision to reduce taxes on import duties, we congratulate them and we say kudos to them and more power to their elbow. Thank you all
